Mihály Flandorffer Peniche
PenicheColombian painter, creator of Modern Minimalism
Peniche (Mihály Flandorffer Peniche, Montería, Colombia, 1975) is a Colombian visual artist of Hungarian descent and the creator of Modern Minimalism: few elements to maximize a work.
Peniche was born in Montería, Colombia, on 27 July 1975, to a Hungarian father. He lived on a farm until he was six, and at thirteen he discovered he could paint. He has not stopped since.
He studied Electronic and Systems Engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá and, however demanding his studies were, he always found time to paint. At twenty-five he founded a software company, which grew to twenty employees, and later a light-rail company.
At thirty, having explored the worlds of business and engineering, he decided to follow his heart and devote himself fully to art: to share his imagination with the world, putting all his passion, knowledge and energy into each work.
His masters were Van Gogh, Manet, Dalí and Picasso. Out of that search came Modern Minimalism, the current he set out in his manifesto: one base color, a limited palette, and numbers, symbols and constellations in the foreground. A work that is simple at first sight and grows deeper the longer you look. It all began with Hypnotizing Cat, the work that gave rise to the movement and opened the Nova series.
He has exhibited in Seville, Madrid, Alcalá del Júcar, Palma de Mallorca, Marbella, Bogotá and Budapest.
«I have painted since school; my masters were Van Gogh, Manet, Dalí and Picasso, but after a long search I found this minimalist energy coming out of me.»
Artist statement
Encounter inside a canvas
When we created this series we were thinking of simplicity: that a person could take in the image easily and fall in love at first sight without knowing why — and, if they wish to find out, move on to the complex. To do so they must travel to their own outer limits for, even without knowing it, this work vibrates at their frequency; the deeper they go, the greater the affinity, until it reflects their personality, sensations, tastes, perversions, aberrations and every other feeling that defines them.
For this, we cross the barrier of the visual, of shapes and colors, and rely on numbers, measurements, media, components, scents, essences, thoughts and imperceptible emotions laid onto the canvas throughout its creation — the perfect combination for the soul’s breakfast every morning.
Do not be afraid to discover yourself. We invite you, rather, to let this work strip your ego, free your soul and feed your imagination.
